Prof. Jean Khalfa, Trinity College Cambridge, UK, has made us the honour to be a guest speaker for a seminar entitled « Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Freedom », at Kyushu University, Japan. The venue will be at Ito Campus, Central Library, Sky Cute Commons conference room, on Friday 11th April 2025, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. This seminar aims to discuss questions related to the relationship between psychiatry and philosophy, stemming from Prof. Jean Khalfa’s recent research on Foucault and his controversy with Derrida, on Fanon and the opposition between Ey and Lacan regarding the pathologies of freedom, and on Césaire’s ongoing relationship with surrealism.

Prof. Jean Khalfa has edited History of Madness by Michel Foucault and Alienation and Freedom by Franz Fanon, and has written extensively on these authors. In his forthcoming book, he examines the dialogue between Aimé Césaire and Wifredo Lam as well as the experience of possession.

This seminar will enrich our understanding of the multiple paths of liberation in the fields of mental health and arts.

It will be followed by a discussion with the panel and the audience, then by a networking coffee time. So please join, we will be delighted to exchange with you!
